NY Spades & Other Games Meetup went into the woods!

Six members camped out at Beaver Pond in Harriman State Park in New York.

Activities included hiking, swimming, eating, drinking (plenty of drinking!), games, and - oh yeah - playing spades. See more images...

Although we needed 2 more players for two simultaneous games, the wildlife visited but did not play. A raccoon dug into our left over bean burritos but dropped it on the ground, probably too spicy, not a Mexican raccoon.

(which omits the frequent partial nudity, surely a draw for many spectators):

The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed.

Internet Week NY 2010 - NY Tech Mixer at Gallery Bar

About 300 tekkies gathered at the trendy Gallery Bar for the NY Tech Mixer (a Meetup.com group) to have a good time at the Internet Week "Demos and Drinks" event.

There were live 10-minute demos by the founders of Auldabees.com, MyFitSolution.com, VillageVines.com, IsWearing.com, and SocialWish.com. Interviews with the founders will be posted over the next couple of weeks on http://www.nytechblog..., so stay tuned.

I met contacts including an MLB event coordinator, an Angel/VC funder, and someone I know from LinkedIn but never met in person.

I also enjoyed the art by Aljosa Daumerie including many rock and roll icons.

Pro-Israel Rally in New York City June 9 2010

A light rain fell as hundreds of New Yorkers rallied across the street from the Israeli Consulate in Manhattan Wednesday to voice their support for the embattled Jewish state in the wake of the Gaza flotilla deaths. (read more at Stand With Us)

We sang Hatikvah and The Star Spangled Banner

I was there, my friend Shoshana told me about it. I support Israel and I believe a nation has a right to protect itself under attack (remember September 11, 2001?).

Brown University Commencement 2010 Honors Morgan Freeman and Barrett Hazeltine

The Brown University community convened for the 242nd Commencement on Sunday May 30, 2010. I was very impressed by the demeanor of President Ruth J. Simmons, who managed great dignity without appearing pompous.

The Green was packed in the blistering heat, and many people found some shade under their programs. My forearms suffered sunburn but it was worth it to witness the marvelous event.
